the nintendo wii is a gaming console released by nintendo in America on Novermber 19, 2006. Instead of attempting to keep up with competitors in aspects like graphics, nintendo focused on making the nintendo wii a practical cheap and fun console. The wii was a lot of firsts for nintendo, it was the first nintendo console to support internet connection, allowing people to play online and purchase games digitally. It's primary controller, the wii remote (commonly refered to as a wiimote), was also the first controller to feature motion controls, being able to sense certain gestures and to be used as a pointer. This allowed the use of both traditional controls like the buttons on it, as well and motions controls for certain games. Due to it's unique features, afforability, and games only avaliable on that consoles like wii sports, it was extremely popular when it first launched, selling over 100 million consoles throughout it's lifetime and being nintendos best selling console ever until it was surpassed but the nintendo switch.
